After A Fast

August 15, 2012

Today as my wife and I were concluding our Fast and I was preparing the Sacrament of the Lords Super, I noticed crumb’s falling on the napkin from the Matzos bread. At first I was going to do my normal and just brush them aside and put them in the trash but then an amazing thought came to me, what if these crumbs can bring about a point of connection with the Holy Spirit for anyone they come in contact with?

I was then reminded of the woman in the Gospel according to Matthew 15:22-28 where it reads: “And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed.” 23But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, “Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us.” 24But He answered and said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” 26And He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27But she said, “Yes, Lord; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” 28Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.”

Often I use to think how insulting that Jesus would refer to her as a dog yet and still she persisted and we see here in the story that just the crumbs that fell from the master’s table was enough to go beyond her wildest expectation for her daughter was healed at once!

Many of us are so fortunate because we are no longer aliens but we are the children now! We are of the household of God and now all that He is and has we also have and are partaker’s of the richness and fullness of the blessings of our Lord Christ Jesus. Let us therefore come boldly to His throne of grace asking and believing that whatever we ask in His name shall be given unto us. And while we’re asking, let’s bless someone with some of the crumbs which falls from our table which the Lord has given to us in abundance. You never know how much of a blessing indeed your crumbs will bring to the down and out and those that are more misfortunate than you! While you’re at it, include some of your abundant bounty also!

God Bless
