When Satan challenges you  like a bully on the playground and says:

You and who’s Army?

The Christian’s Answer is:

“Just me,.. and the Host of Heaven,.. under the command of  Almighty God!.. That’s who!”

2641 words @ 125 wpm = 21 min + 6.53 min for “The Champion” = 27.53 min

Whether we wanted it or not, we are engaged in a war! We are in this war because, Satan is attacking us! It started with Adam and Eve.

This war has been going on for ages and is still being waged today.

Tell me, does this have a familiar ring to it?

2 Peter 3:3

3But first you must realize that in the last days some people won’t think about anything except their own selfish desires. They will make fun of you 4and say, “Didn’t your Lord promise to come back? Yet the first leaders have already died, and the world hasn’t changed a bit.”

Why are we being attacked?

Pastor Bob rightly warned us, the moment we accept Jesus as our savior and the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us, Satan WILL attack! For we have become a threat to him and his plans.

What are Satan’s plans?

Satan’s strategy is to lead millions to deny Christ. Deny the deity of Christ, and deny the saving power of Christ.

We have all seen many examples of this!  There are scholars and theologians, for instance, who declare Jesus is not a person, but the “Christ Idea”. This “theology” denies the existence of Christ, His power, deity, and most of all, salvation, through His sacrifice, on the cross!

Did you know “Wica” claims to be the fastest growing religion today?!

Wica is the re-introduction of the worship of Diana, the pagan goddess of child bearing and the hunt. She is also called the queen of the witches. Paul warned, in his letter to the Ephesians; they must condemn the practices of this pagan cult, which posed the greatest threat to the church at Ephesus.

Ephesus was the place where the temple of Diana was located. The temple of Diana was one of the ancient wonders of the world! Temple priestesses supported the temple by engaging in prostitution. Men were encouraged to join in these “religious rites” often, and their wives could say little about it. No wonder the worship of Diana had so many followers!  The same lure is present today.

Satan also uses indifference and lethargy! Even great Christian Warriors can become fatigued, discouraged or lazy. When they turn a blind eye to what is happening around them in the spiritual war, they can be lulled into a false sense of security and let their guard down.

It is said “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance”.  I say….“This is not easy!”

We are fighting wars all over the world today, as we oppose terrorism and Islamic extremism. We may never know peace again, until the day the Lord returns and brings an end to war.

You might ask; When will that be?

In Matthew 24:3-14 Jesus answered this question for his disciples.

3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then, the end will come.

Know your enemy?

Satan has many names. Here are a few.

The name “Satan” Means Adversary

Devil or (deabolos) means, Slanderer

Other common names are: Murderer, liar and “The father of lies.”

With a vast host of demons, he seeks, through age’s old cunning and craftiness to confuse, terrorize, discourage and depress God’s creation!

The demons work with cunning, craftiness, and intelligence, to accomplish, “The wiles of the Devil” to deceive, with subtle persuasion and sophistry, using every trick in the book in order  lead men away from God!

Satan’s whole system, is based upon subtle, and what seems to many, reasonable, deception.

Does it work? Think about it:

Disguised as an angel of light, he even persuaded many of the Angels in Heaven, to turn against God!

He brought the Jews to worship idols, even after the miracles they had witnessed in their exodus from Egypt.

Finally, he persuaded Gods chosen people,  to murder their own messiah!

In this guise, as an angel of light, we are told he will come, claiming to be “the Christ” and will deceive millions into believing he is the Christ! But, he will be the false prophet, and the Anti-Christ instead! He will set up his image in the Temple in Jerusalem, inside the “Holy of Holies. He will demand mankind worship him, or suffer death!

You may now be wondering how we can prevail against such a formidable enemy! But remember you are a soldier in the Army of God! The Commander of our army is much more powerful and intelligent than Satan and He gives us our orders!

What are our marching orders?

1. Trust in the power of Almighty God!

It is not by our own power, but, by the power of God, that we have the strength for the battle.

In Colossians 1:10-11 Paul exhorts the Colossians

10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power!

Again in Ephesians 1:19-22 Paul says:

19I want you to know about the great and mighty power that God has for us followers. It is the same wonderful power he used 20when he raised Christ from the dead and had him sit at his right hand in heaven. 21There Christ rules over all forces, authorities, powers, and rulers. He rules over all beings in this world and will rule in the future world as well. 22God has put all things under the power of Christ, and for the good of the church he has made him the head of everything.

2. Put on your armor!

In Ephesians 6:10-14 we read:

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

3.Prepare to engage Satan in Battle!

 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God, for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

Paul is telling us to be ready to refute the lies and arguments of Satan! How do we prepare? By studying the Word of God!

4. Be on your guard!

Every soldier does sentry duty. When the Sentry sees the enemy coming, he does not run out to fight them on his own. He alerts the army and the Commander!

Know the word of God so you may recognize at once, Satan’s attempts to introduce false doctrine, false beliefs, paganism, and all perversions disguised as religion.

1 Timothy 6:20-21

20 O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge21 by professing it, some have strayed, concerning the faith.

5. Take heart!

In Ephesians 6:10-15 we read:

10Finally, let the mighty strength of the Lord make you strong. 11Put on all the armor that God gives, so you can defend yourself against the devil’s tricks. 12We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world. 13So put on all the armor that God gives. Then when that evil day comes, you will be able to defend yourself. And when the battle is over, you will still be standing firm. 14Be ready! Let the truth be like a belt around your waist, and let God’s justice protect you like armor. 15Your desire to tell the good news about peace should be like shoes on your feet.

 6. Use the lie detector!

Satan’s primary weapon is deception. How can you tell when you are being deceived? How can you detect the false prophets?

1 John 4:1-6

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you, is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

Can we win?

Of course we can and we will win!

Let me introduce you to our General.

Revelations 1:8

8The Lord God says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the one who is and was and is coming. I am God All-Powerful!”

In Revelations 1:12-16 John says:

12When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. 13There with the lampstands was someone who seemed to be the Son of Man.  He was wearing a robe that reached down to his feet, and a gold cloth was wrapped around his chest. 14His head and his hair were white as wool or snow, and his eyes looked like flames of fire. 15His feet were glowing like bronze being heated in a furnace, and his voice sounded like the roar of a waterfall. 16He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp double-edged sword was coming from his mouth. His face was shining as bright as the sun at noon.

This IS NOT the image of Christ we normally think of, when we think of Jesus. We usually think of him, standing with outstretched arms, blessing those who came to hear Him on the Mount. We see Him kneeling down to hold the little children in his arms. We remember the tortured and bloodied face of Christ as he hung on the cross.

This is quite another image. This is the image, Satan and his demons fear! This is the God of righteousness, judgment and POWER! This is He who will open the fiery pit of Hell and cast Satan and his demons headlong into it!

In Revelations 19:11-16 John tells us:

11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called, The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

So it is: On to Victory!

In Revelation 19:19-21 John gives us a view of God’s victory over Satan!

19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. 20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.

Let us celebrate!

Though we are engaged in a war, against a formidable and unseen enemy, we can and will prevail! God is Sovereign and possesses awesome power! Against Him, Satan and all of his demons, cannot, and will not prevail! When we are under attack, we must call on the Lord and trust in His power! He is the General and He commands the host of heaven! We are secure in our armor, wielding the sword, which is the Word of God. God has assured us that when we “fight the good fight” with courage and faith, we will be standing when the battle ends!

The Recruitment poster reads”

If you have not accepted Jesus as your savior and protector, you should give it serious consideration now.

If you want to become a soldier in the army of God, now is the time to say so! This is the recruiting center! You needn’t be abused by demons! Satan cannot harm you, when you belong to the Lord. The battle is the Lord’s! The war is already won. If you have never before accepted Jesus as your Lord, Savior and Commander, you can do so today.

Jesus needs “a few good men!”

In place of Communion today, I’d like to play a song of victory! One which celebrates the Victory of Jesus over Satan. Don’t try to sing it, just listen and celebrate the victory! This is “THE CHAMPION”

May you trust in the Lord and call upon Him in times of trouble. May he fill you with knowledge of His word, good deeds, and the Power of the Holy Spirit. May He bless you in all you do this week. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen.

Got something to say?
